After the data breach of largest phone and broadband provider in UK, police for the first time has taken some action.
Last week TalkTalk the biggest Phone and Broadband provider in UK was hacked and police has been investigating the case since then. Now Police service of Northern Ireland and investigating officers from Metropolitan police crime unit have arrested a 15 year old boy in the case of cyber-attack on TalkTalk.
According to the reports, the boy was arrested in County Antrim at around 4pm on Monday. He has been arrested on doubt of obliging felonies under the Computer Misuse Act.
The Computer Misuse Act 1990 is an act of the UK parliament according to which if someone is charged under the Computer Misuse Act is liable to get a serious punishment and payment of hefty fine. The offences under Computer Acts are:
- Unauthorised Access to computer material, punishable by 12 months’ imprisonment (or 6 months in Scotland) and/or a fine “not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale” (since 2015, unlimited).
- Unauthorised access with intent to commit or facilitate commission of further offences, punishable by 12 months/maximum fine (or 6 months in Scotland) on summary conviction and/or 5 years/fine on indictment.
- Unauthorised modification of computer material, punishable by 12 months/maximum fine (or 6 months in Scotland) on summary conviction and/or 10 years/fine on indictment.

On arrest of the boy police said “The teenager was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, He was taken into custody at a County Antrim police station where he will be interviewed. A search of the address is under way and enquiries continue.”
The recent Data breach of TalkTalk has left the Bank details and personal details of its 4 Million users on risk. This is not the first time when TalkTalk has suffered the Data breach. The company became the target of the hackers third time in the same year.
After the hack, CEO of TalkTalk Diana Mary said “This is happening to a huge number of organisations all the time. The awful truth is that every company, every organisation in the UK needs to spend more money and put more focus on cyber security — it is the crime of our era.”
For the security purpose, the users are highly recommended to change their passwords as soon as possible and keep an eye on their bank account for some weeks or more.
