Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Apple in India
Today the Indian officials told that Tim Cook has positively responded to the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he asked Cook about creating a manufacturing base of Apple in India.
Our honorable Prime Minister is on his 5 day US visit on his aim of meeting a dozen global CEOs. His tour is starting from Silicon Valley with an interaction with the Indian-American community. When he arrived to Silicon Valley he gave a strong push to his drive for technological innovation in India. A list has already been developed according to his aim. Also he will be meeting US President Obama. The latest visit is of Tesla motors in San Francisco where he met the chief of Tesla motors and CEO Elon Musk.
Foxconn, a well renowned as an Apple’s largest manufactures, has been deciding to set up a manufacturing base in India, Vikas Swarup the spokesman of Ministry of external affairs told. “Cook responded positively. I think India does fits into his long term plans. He particularly was interested in the whole App development economy, which he said could be a very very important factor for entrepreneurship where individual app developers can just become part of the app universe,” he said.
“Cook said by using the app development tools people can really become part of this huge industry. He gave the example of China where in fact we created 1.5 million jobs,” Vikas Swarup said.
“The Prime Minister said he would like Apple to start manufacturing in India. He mentioned the huge opportunities India offered,” he quoted in an interview with reporters.
During the meeting with Modi, Cook said that in the heart of every Apple employee there is a special place for Indian people for the simple reason that its co-founder Steve Jobs for inspiration came to India when he was a young man. It was India that inspired him to do something different which later on came as a launch of Apple.
The real game changing event for India would be Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative. Also Cook expressed his great desire to be a partner in Digital India initiative, which Cook thought was a transformative initiative from side of the government of India. Prime Minister Modi has been emphasizing on the public sector position in India. As it has been divided into 3 main sectors: the public on, private sector and personal. The personal sector holds the powerful people who can be self-made entrepreneurs, Swarup noted.
The Indian Ambassador Arun K Singh to the US said that during the meeting there was a sense that a lot of design innovation is happening in India.
“As Apple expands its presence in India including a manufacturing presence there could be enhanced opportunity for app development related to the apple platforms,” he said.
There was also some discussion on Apple Pay, how this can be part of Jan Dhan Yojana for instance and other such initiatives, Swarup said.
In a statement to Press Trust of India, Cook said Apple has been operating in India for nearly 20 years.
“There are now over 4,000 places in India where customers can buy Apple products, and we look forward to launching iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus there very soon,” Cook said.
“We are fortunate to have many passionate customers along with a fast-growing developer community, and we’re investing to expand our operations throughout the country,” he said.
